DOG Days at the ToonSeum

From Ducks to Dogs, ToonSeum rules on Day of Giving

To honor all the quacking craziness that Joe Wos, founder of the ToonSeum – one of only three cartoon arts museums in the United States, has endured as of late, I give him and his non-profit museum top spot on my #13DOG list.

Current duck controversy aside, the ToonSeum has given our family many visits of fun and education. (Yes, people, comics and cartoons can be packed with information and knowledge for the masses. It’s not all splats, bangs, and ka-blams, although that’s why we love ’em, right?)

I’ve known Joe for a few years now, and man, this guy works hard to keep his passion going.  If you’ve never been to the ToonSeum, you should check out all the cool stuff that goes on there. Yes, you can visit the exhibits, but Joe also runs things like geek nights, B movie viewing nights, field trips, summer kids camps, a Monster Blast Halloween Party for families, and the museum’s cool annual fundraiser, Ka-Blam!, which this year is 90’s themed (and I still haven’t picked out my outfit yet!), and lots of things I’ve probably forgotten. Toonseum will also be at Comic Con Pittsburgh this weekend, where Joe will host a Q and A with Carroll Spinney (better known as Big Bird.)

Any reason you’re not clicking into any of those links for more info? And, hey, if you’re giving to the ToonSeum for #13DOG, you’re getting a cool Tee if you give over $25 (see the bottom of their info). Go to pittsburghgives.org and click “donate now” and then search Toonseum to make your gift.

ToonSeum Mission Statement

The mission of the ToonSeum is to celebrate the art of cartooning. Our goal is to promote a deeper appreciation of the cartoonists and their work through hands-on workshops, community outreach, cartoon-oriented educational programming, and exhibitions of original cartoon art.

Simply Put – Go draw a reminder to give to the ToonSeum on Day of Giving – 10/3/13.
