Pittsburgh Cares- It’s More Than a Saying

Have you ever wondered how you can lend your talents, skills, and time to someone who will appreciate it?

Have you ever wished there was an easy way to find opportunities to volunteer?

There is. The place is called Pittsburgh Cares.  They need your Pittsburgh Gives Day of Giving donation!

“Pittsburgh Cares, an affiliate of the HandsOn Network and Points of Light Institute, offers a flexible approach to volunteering by partnering with nonprofit agencies and offering service opportunities to people of all ages. We work to provide volunteers with a high-quality service experience that fuels further action, and we envision a day when everyone is inspired and equipped to be the change they wish to see in the world. “-from the Pittsburgh Cares website

You can find organizations to volunteer with here.

We can’t say we are too busy- they make it easy to give your schedule and decide when YOU are available.

We can’t say “someone else will do it”- the calendar of opportunities is always full and ready for us to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Stay connected with Pittsburgh Cares on Facebook and Twitter.

There are several different programs that fit the volunteer efforts of different members of the community. More information on each can be found in the programs tab of the Pittsburgh Cares website.

Business Cares

Pittsburgh Cares makes volunteering easy for businesses of all industries and sizes throughout the region by assisting with the coordination of employee volunteer programs, the development of corporate citizenship initiatives, and the management of Days of Caring in partnership with the United Way of Allegheny County.

Campus Cares

Pittsburgh Cares connects the local college community including Greek Life, student organizations, resident halls, individual students, faculty, and staff to a variety of volunteer and service-learning opportunities.

Community Connections

Pittsburgh Cares connects the public to one-time, ongoing, and skill-based volunteer opportunities based on their desired location, impact area, and time commitment. We also connect the public’s generosity with the needs of regional nonprofit organizations.

Youth Engaged in Service

Pittsburgh Cares connects individual youth and groups under the age of 18 to volunteer opportunities, leadership development experiences, and service learning projects. Through YES, we connect youth around the region through high impact experiences.

I asked a staff member at Pittsburgh Cares to sum up what they want readers to know.

We want folks to know that our services to nonprofits are free. Our services to individual volunteers are free. We connect nearly 600 nonprofits to the community year-round to help organizations of all type – no matter the affiliation or meaning. Women’s causes, social services, homelessness, environmental issues, etc, – no one is left out when we work with so many orgs. Our operating costs are funded in part by donors and that’s why we reach out during Day of Giving!

Show how much Pittsburgh cares and keep the mission of promoting and increasing community engagement throughout the area in mind as you make your donation list for October 4th’s Day Of Giving.  Help Pittsburgh Cares continue to connect volunteers and non-profit organizations together!
